Introduction to Hospitality

About this course

The hospitality industry is a broad category of fields within the service industry that includes lodging, event planning, theme parks, transportation, cruise line, and additional fields within the tourism industry. During this course you will develop the essential skills and knowledge necessary to begin a career in this industry. An additional feature of this course is the personal option for the learner to choose which pathway they wish to follow focused either on food safety, hot drinks service or by gaining their personal licence.

What will I do on this course ?

During this course you will:

  • Understand the structure of the hospitality industry.
  • Learn the principles of good customer service in the hospitality industry.
  • Recognise the importance of high standards of personal appearance.
  • Know the values and principles of healthy eating and how different food groups contribute to a healthy diet.
  • Experience serving food and drinks in a live restaurant.
  • Understand the responsibilities of preparing food hygienically for consumption.


As the course has 3 different pathways, the above areas are focused on the learners’ area of choice.

Qualifications you will complete

  • NOCN Level 1 Certificate in Hospitality
  • C&G Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Customer Service

Who is it for ?

This course is relevant to anyone working within the hospitality industry. It is also relevant to anyone wishing to change career paths to the hospitality industry or for someone looking to back up their existing knowledge with an approved certificate.

How is this course assessed ?

There is no formal examination for this qualification.

You will be assessed in a variety of ways by your tutor. Your final assessment will consist of a portfolio of work that you create over the time of the course

However food safety and personal licence require you to sit a multi-choice exam.

What could I do next ?

The care industry has proven to be very competitive so this qualification will allow you to demonstrate skills and aptitude to prospective employers.
