About this course

Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) was created in the mid-90s with the aim of improving construction site workers’ competence in order to reduce accidents and drive up efficiency. Passing this will mean that you can demonstrate to employers an agreed high level of occupational competence, making you more employable within the sector. Since July 2014 is it now a requirement that you have a health and safety qualification at level 1 and pass the CSCS test to be able to apply for a 5 year Labourers card (Green CSCS.)

What will I do on this course ?

During this course you will:

  • Understand why we use construction drawings and the tools and equipment required to produce them.
  • Develop a theoretical understanding of health and safety in the workplace including COSHH, fire, accident prevention and reporting in accordance with HASAW Act 1974.
  • Demonstrate good team working skills by working responsibly and cooperatively.
  • Obtain knowledge in how to suggest improvements on their skills in working with others.
  • Identify the regulations and guidance that apply to the safe moving and handling of resources, including the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
  • Perform safe moving and handling as part of a team, with the use of lifting aids
  • Personal Development

Qualifications you will complete

  • Pearson Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Construction
  • Highfield Level 1 Award in Personal Development for Employability
  • BSC Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment
  • CITB Health and Safety Test for Operatives

Who is it for ?

Working on a building site requires you to hold a CSCS card. If you are planning or have a career in the building or construction industry it is a must have to enter any site.  This course is suitable for anyone who is thinking of changing career into the building or construction industry, or a career that involves site work e.g. industrial cleaner, site security etc.

How is this course assessed ?

Throughout your course your tutor will assess your knowledge through a series of informal question and answer sessions. Your final assessment is a portfolio produced within your classroom training session as well as a classroom assessment.

There are 2 additional multi-choice online tests that must be passed in order to gain the CSCS card.

What could I do next ?

Gaining this qualification will be the first step to you applying for a CSCS Green card which opens doors to a career in the building or construction industry.

Previous students have gone on to:

  • Further qualifications e.g. BTEC, NVQ, Level 2 certificate;
  • Specialist qualifications e.g. bricklaying, carpentry, plastering, streetworks, groundworks etc;
  • A vast range of apprenticeships linked to the construction industry and
